How to Save an Image File as a JPEG
These directions are for saving JPEGs using Photoshop
- Open Photoshop
- Pull down the File menu and select Open. This will give you a dialog box. Using the Look in menu, locate your image and double click on it.
- Pull down the Image menu and select Mode. A JPEG file must be RGB (color) or Grayscale (black and white). Select which one is appropriate for your image.
- If you want to change the size of your image, pull down the Image menu again and select Image Size. Adjust either the height or width (Photoshop will automatically adjust the other for you). When you're done, click "OK".
- Now you're ready to save your image. Pull down the File menu again, and select Save As. This will give you another dialog box.
- Notice the Save in menu at the top of the box. This allows you to choose where you save your file. It's a good idea to save it to the Desktop or to a specific folder where you can easily find it.
- Next, name your file. The name can be anything you want, but it's usually not a good idea to use capital letters. The name should also include the .jpg or .jpeg file extension (like this: marc_wilson.jpg, cougar.jpeg, osprey2.jpg).
- Finally, under the Save As field at the bottom of the dialog box, select JPEG.
- Click OK.
